Hormonal Cleanse
Updated: Jun 6, 2023
As part of my Skin and Hormone Programme (SHE) I give all my clients the opportunity to participate in a Hormonal Cleanse.
While cleansing is beneficial, not just any cleanse is going to be beneficial for fertility and a healthy cycle. A Hormonal cleanse is specific to the reproductive system and assists the body in eliminating the additional burden of substances not good for fertility, as well as clearing up the skin.
A hormonal cleanse focuses on three major areas that can help the body to prepare for conception and a healthy cycle:
- liver health
- uterine health
- increasing circulation to the uterus.
Liver Health
The liver is the most important organ we have to filter toxins from the body including excess hormones. It is the liver's job to remove excess hormones, such as oestrogen, from our body. For many of us, our lifestyles inhibit the liver from working at its best. Poor diet, poor health, chronic medication and alcohol consumption are examples of things that put strain on the liver. Toxins from our environment, body care products and lifestyle choices are other examples.
The liver may need stimulation to function at its best. In my formula's I use whole herbs to help support the liver and thereby reducing its impact on your reproductive health.
Uterine Health
The health of the Uterus is most important for reproductive health. During every cycle, the lining of the uterus builds up, ready for implantation. If this does not occur, then the lining is released (your period). Sometimes old stagnant blood may remain, this can show up as brown blood, spotting or clots. This is not the healthiest environment for a embryo.
Some reasons for the uterus to not fully release the lining may be low circulation, hormonal imbalances, misplaced uterus, stress or unhealthy diet.
I use herbs that are specific uterine herbs that increase circulation and help tone the uterus mucsles.
Reproductive hormones communicate with each other via endocrine organs such as the ovaries, uterus, adrenal glands and pituitary. Circulation needs to be functioning at an adequate level to ensure the hormones are working properly, to achieve ovulation and menstruation.
Working with the phase of your cycle
The hormonal cleanse focusses on specific phases of the menstrual cycle. The first phase is the liver phase and begins on day 6 of your cycle till you ovulate. This is a stimulating time of the cycle where we are building up hormones for ovulation and we need the liver to work a little harder.
The second phase is the uterine phase and begins at ovulation till the first day of your period. We are increasing circulation and muscle tone to the uterus by using specific nourishing herbs. By using a biphasic method of cleansing according to your cycle we are working to get your hormones in balance.
